Yes, I am still here. I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'm going through a bit of a lull at the moment, creatively speaking. And when this happens, I try to snap myself out of it by reading blogs and sewing books for inspiration.
I'm throwing around the idea of making a doona cover for Chloe's bed (to go with her new red and white colour scheme). I've found a beautiful one in Amy Butler's 'In Stitches' book, but I'm not sure if I'm game enough to tackle such a big project (not a big project for some....but VERY big for me!!!). I'd love to know if anyone's made a doona cover and if so, how tricky was it? The Amy Butler one is patchworked, so perhaps that may be a tad ambitious for my first try?

I've never tried a doona cover, but it sounds like a great idea - you could definitely manage that!
I've made a cot size doona cover and it was actually really easy. If you wanted to save time, make the patches larger so there's less sewing. I used snaps at the open end which also saved time.
I have made doona covers before. Very easy - just lots of fabric to put in your machine. I would use snaps on the end too. The only problem I had was the width of the fabric that you have to watch - but if you are doing a patch one it shouldn't be a prolem.
Good luck - can't wait to see the result of your efforts.
Doona covers are easy - much quicker than making a quilt and you get to enjoy the piecing (my favourite part) without the quilting and binding. If you can make a cushion cover - you can make a doona cover. Looking forward to seeing the finished result!
Glad you have posted...been checking ;)...I haven't braved the quilt yet either...at the moment I have the attention span of a knat...would love to though.Have you seen Jodie's(Ric rac)quilt in progress?Doona cover sounds good..I like Lisa's idea to start with a pillow...might try that one.Have a great weekend.

Can't help with the doona cover but I think it would look great picking your own colours to match the room and what you've already done.
A friend of mine made the Amy Butler one (in a queen size!) and said it was very easy. Im sure you could manage it. Good luck.
